ELIGIBILITY: Open to all clay artists living and working in New Mexico.

TYPES OF WORKS: Functional and sculptural ceramic works, from traditional to contemporary, realistic to conceptual, small to large, and pedestal to wall, focusing on the Bosque’s changing four seasons broadly interpreting nature’s cycle of life on the Rio Grande River: wildlife, bird migrations, agriculture, from seed to harvest, and farm to table.

APPLICATION FEE: $40 for three entries (includes one-year $25 NMPCA membership) and $15 for current NMPCA members.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:  Step 1:  complete this online registration and payment. Step 2: Applicant will receive confirmation email that contains a link and a code to upload images and description of entr(ies).   Prior to going to the image upload link, prepare images and store as jpg files.  

IMAGE PREPARATION: Prepare images in advance to these specifications, one image per entry:

jpg image file, minimum 800 pixels on longest dimension, maximum 1280 pixels wide, 1024 pixels high, and not exceed 1 MB in size. Name image files with last name, first name, title, and entry number as follows:


No spaces in file name, initial capital for name and title words, underline between name, title, and entry number. No special characters such as: ( ) ‘ “ & % $ # @.

For each entry have available title, dimensions, description (clay used, method of making, surface treatment, and type of firing), and sale price.

DELIVERY OF WORK: All accepted work must be hand-delivered on July 5, 2018. The OSVC is located at 6500 Coors Blvd NW, Albuquerque, New Mexico (end of Bosque Meadows Road between Montaño and Paseo del Norte). Volunteers with NMPCA will be coordinating transport of works to OSVC from Taos and Santa Fe and additional transport sites depending on location of works accepted. Work may not be shipped to the OSVC.

LIABILITY & INSURANCE: New Mexico Potters & Clay Artists and City of Albuquerque are not responsible for damaged artwork. Artists may look into coverage through homeowner insurance or supplementary insurance from a provider of personal discretion.

AGREEMENT: Submission of artwork shall constitute an agreement on the part of the artist to comply with the conditions set forth, including:

  • Artist may enter up to three works using clay as focus and main material.
  • Works entered for pedestal are limited to under 80 pounds.
  • Works entered for wall are limited to under 30 pounds and must have secure hanging device attached.
  • For each entry, artist will provide: title, dimensions, brief description of work (clay used, method of making, surface treatment, and type of firing), and sale price.
  • Entry of current works executed over past three years preferred.
  • Work must be available for purchase.
  • Images will be rated anonymously by the three jurors and results will be tabulated by the Exhibit Committee. Selection decisions are final.
  • Accepted work differing significantly from submitted image will be disqualified from exhibit.
  • Work should not be so fragile or awkward that transport or display is harmful to work or viewer.  
  • Works not feasible to display within gallery environment will not be selected.   
  • Entry fees are nonrefundable.
  • Work may not be withdrawn prior to close of exhibit.
  • A thirty percent (30%) commission on work sold will be donated to Open Space Alliance, a nonprofit group of volunteers working with the City of Albuquerque Open Space Division. All work must be for sale.
  • Permission to reproduce work for publicity and educational purposes is granted.
  • New Mexico Potters & Clay Artists and Open Space Visitor Center are not responsible for work lost or damaged in transit.
