Statement

NMPCA artist Georgia Ruiz Davis, AlbuquerqueGeorgia Ruiz Davis was born and raised in southeast Texas, where she dreamed of a land with a wide expanse of painterly skies and low humidity. Instead, she spent most of her life near the Austin/San Antonio area after having earned a BFA in Painting and Ceramics from Texas State University in San Marcos.

She stayed in the Central Texas area, married and had two beautiful daughters. Georgia continued to make art when she could, but her family came first. When the time came that she no longer needed to cut anyone’s meat or decorate birthday cakes she got elbow-deep into mud again at the Southwest School of Art in San Antonio. It fed her soul!

She earned an MA in History and from 2002 – 2024 she held positions with Texas State Parks and the Texas Historical Commission as a Historic Site Manager.

In December 2024, Georgia and her husband, the author, Steven L Davis, retired and moved to Albuquerque the very next day. Finally! The dream of enchanted skies came to fruition!

Georgia’s work is primarily hand-built and draws upon the crossroads of whimsy, life, love, and her Mexican American culture. She is currently renting studio space at Coyote Clay but hopes to build a home studio, again, someday.
