Statement

Jim R. Moore, MPerfectPots

I am a New Mexico/Colorado potter, spending summers in my studio and cabin in Crestone, Colorado and winters in my Las Cruces studio and home.   I prefer to throw, and often alter whatever I’ve thrown.  I enjoy sculpting, mostly a variety of animals, but also human busts.  I do some hand-building, and my wall pockets are quite popular.   I enjoy experimenting with different clays, glazes, slips, and other finishes. (Friends remark how much variety they see in my work.)  I am fortunate to have access to electric kilns, as well as gas and wood-fired ones.

I came up with the name MPerfectPots for my clay hobby for a couple of reasons.  The “M” stands for Moore, and also, tongue-in-cheek, it is a “statement” that my pots are imperfect!  I keep striving for the perfect pot, but am not there yet!

I have been a member of the Potters’ Guild of Las Cruces for about 8 years, and currently am the co-chair of the annual Holiday Sale event.
