Artist Statement
While never intending to work primarily with the form of the horse, for me it works better than human forms to express certain aspects of the spiritual life. Horses survive and thrive by living in community and being extremely sensitive to their surroundings. They are teachers and healers. Most of the ceramic horses I create open to reveal the inner life, the unseen realms. They seem more and more to be exploring the Sacred Feminine which led to my work – the Goddess series of horses - Equine Goddesses, which were featured in two shows.
Although attempting to pivot away from the equine theme, my latest work involves anthropomorphic figures riding horses. I enjoy doing portraits of people who inspire me. My bust of Deb Harland received an award in the 2022 Fall Arts festival in Taos. It was later on display in the foyer of the Millicent Rogers museum in Taos.
When rebuilding a family beach house on Cape Cod Bay, I designed and installed hundreds of my handmade tiles as murals, backsplashes and more. I will be featured in an article in Western Horseman Magazine - the September 2024 edition.
